Supported by strong fundamental research, sweeping breakthroughs are expected within the next few years, incentivizing companies to invest already today. This session provides information on the research strategies in Germany as well as contributions from companies on their cutting-edge developments on quantum sensors and quantum computers.
Abstract: Photons are, apart from being quantum objects, also the central carrier of information in imaging and communication. This session will exemplify the disruptive potential as well as the challenges associated with entangled photon pair sources in the context of newly arising technological applications: Imaging and detection in new spectral ranges as well as principally eavesdrop-proof communication are currently being adopted by both companies and research institutions alike.
Abstract: Simulation tools and methods have reached a mature state today, so that even for complex photonic systems a prediction of their behaviour is possible with relatively high precision.
The key components for a successful application are the right choice of the underlying models, the inclusion of experimental knowledge and the reduction of numerical complexity to a manageable extent. In this Application Panel some selected examples are presented, demonstrating goal-oriented development of products and applications by means of simulation.
Abstract: Ultrashort pulsed lasers provide outstanding capabilities with respect to accuracy and material processing quality. While initially viewed as expensive and less reliable, ultrashort pulsed lasers have become indispensable tools for a variety of industrial applications as their cost and reliability are now at par with most other solid state lasers. Among those are applications for micro-electronics that serve those many laser steps involved in manufacturing of advanced mobile devices.
This forum will focus on select success stories where USP lasers have been an enabeling technology and also look at the ablation dynamics behind these applications. The main topics are alternative drives, energy storage systems, concepts for lightweight design and infrastructure for the E-Mobility. New laser sources and the related equipment such as focusing optics and process monitoring devices have to be aligned with these new demands. This means new challenges and opportunities for production technologies needed for high volume production with high yield and high reliability.
